Biography

Fiona Ellis, (Vice-Chair) - Northern Rock Foundation

Fiona Ellis is Director of the Northern Rock Foundation, which was established in 1997. The Foundation is now one of the UK’s largest independent grant-makers with an expected budget of £22 million for 2004.

Fiona worked previously for the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation where she was Assistant Director (Arts) for almost six years and, in a freelance capacity, for the Baring Foundation and the Esmée Fairbairn Charitable Trust. She has also been a trainer and consultant to the voluntary sector with The Management Centre and others. Prior to entering the trust sector, she held a range of arts posts including community arts worker, stage manager, funding officer and director of a rural arts centre.

She is joint author of Fairness in Funding, an equal opportunities guide for grant-makers published by the Association of Charitable Foundations. She is a Vice Chair of the Association of Charitable Foundations, a member of the UK Grants Committee of Comic Relief and a member of Stonewall's Citizenship 21 Awards panel. She is also a member of the Advisory Council of the Charities Aid Foundation.

In her spare time she can often be seen flying above Northumberland in a microlight.

Fiona is vice-chair of Futurebuilders and a member of the Audit Committee.
