Biography: Imtiaz Farookhi
Imtiaz Farookhi BA (Hons), MSc, FRSA is the Chief Executive of NHBC .
The National House-Building Council (NHBC) is the independent regulatory and standard setting body for the UK house-building industry. Imtiaz has a track record of improving corporate and operational efficiency and effectiveness. Previously Chief Executive of Leicester City Council, Imtiaz has an impressive record of success in local government including high level appointments at the London Borough of Southwark and City of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council.
He began his career in the electricity supply industry, in the former Central Electricity Generating Board. A former Board member of the Environment Agency, Imtiaz has substantial experience in urban regeneration. He was appointed by the Secretary of State for Education and Employment to the Further Education Funding Council, is a member of the Learning Skills Council, served as a director on the Training and Enterprise Council and inward investment companies.
He is currently Chairman of the National Skills Forum for Construction & the Built Environment. As NHBC's Chief Executive, Imtiaz plays a key role in highlighting issues facing UK house-building such as skills shortages, sustainable development and customer service. He has also instigated a review of NHBC 's services and a restructuring of its operations.
