Darts (Doncaster Community Arts)
Minister for the Third Sector, Ed Miliband, took part in a showcase event in November 2006 to see how an arts-based, third sector organisation is helping people in Doncaster take control of their lives and futures. Organised by Darts, Doncaster Community Arts, the event identified four public service areas where the arts already play a major role in improving access to mainstream services. A series of workshops highlighted how darts is helping local people find work, realise their educational potential, re-engage with their community and lead healthier lives through arts education and community-based activities.
The event was also an opportunity to celebrate the organisation’s successes, including the publication of a two-year piece of action research – Engaging People in Change (EPIC) - funded by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and the announcement that work on a new £1.1 million expansion project, funded by Futurebuilders England, will begin in early 2007.
